Lightower Invests In Some Baltimore Metro Fiber

Lightower often has something interesting to announce in the last week or two of the year, whether organic or inorganic. Today they revealed a new expansion plan in the city of Baltimore through the acquisition of network assets from HarborLight Networks.

ScreenHunter_11 Dec. 21 11.00Lightower had entered Baltimore with the Sidera acquisition, and subsequently added some 270 route miles shortly thereafter in a regional organic expansion. Today's deal will give Lightower direct access into a significant fraction of the key buildings downtown, including the data centers at 111 Market, 300 W. Lexington, 506 Central, 323 N. Charles, and 1401 E. Russel. I'd say one can no longer point to Baltimore as Lightower's weakest link along the I-95 corridor between Boston and Washington DC.

Lightower's acquisition of Fibertech was one of 2015 's key M&A deals in the fiber sector, and is something I'm sure they're still integrating. No doubt we will start hearing about additional expansion projects in and adjacent to the new territories added in that deal in 2016.

But inorganically, there is no reason to think Lightower is done. Something in the Carolinas next perhaps?
